If you are eager to increase your knowledge and appreciation of beer, WSET has launched an intermediate level qualification. This immersive and interactive course will help you understand how key ingredients and production processes influence the flavour profile and quality of beer.
The course fee includes access to the WSET Online Classroom, the Student Study Pack including reading material and the Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT) shipped to you anywhere within Australia and a remotely invigilated exam you can sit from the comfort of your home. Beer Samples Kits for the tasting exercises are available to purchase as an optional extra (see below).
Delivery
This course is a 5-week, 6 module online learning programme with educator support available for this time. The course modules should be followed in sequential order during this 5-week window. There is a recommendation of 6 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.

This is an accredited course and all candidates who successfully complete the examination are awarded the WSET Level 2 Award in Beer certificate and lapel pin.

This starter kit includes 9 units of Australian and International beer samples to use for the following styles (please leave a note if you would like multiples of any samples);
Weissbier, American Pale Ale, International Pale Lager, Berliner Weisse, Czech Pilsner, Stout, Tripel, Dubbel, Munich helles
The WSET Level 2 Award in Beer focuses on how key ingredients and production processes influence the style and quality of beer. It will also teach you how to taste, describe and evaluate the quality of beer.

What you'll learn
Module 1: Introduction to beer and tasting
Recall how to use the SAT and Beer-lexicon to assess and evaluate the quality of a beer.
Module 2: Beer ingredients
Describe how grains and hops are processed in beer production and how they influence style.
List the main types of malted barley and state their characteristics.
State the characteristics of the other grains and sources of sugar used to make beer.
Describe how water influences style through its impact on the flavour profile.
List the different varieties of hops used in brewing and state their characteristics.
List the different hop products and some other flavourings that are used in brewing.
Describe how yeast and bacteria are used in beer production and their influence on style.
List the different types of yeast and their characteristics.
Module 3: Brewing beer
Describe the processes of milling, mashing and mash separation, wort boiling and how hop additions influence the final beer.
Describe how wort is prepared for fermentation.
Describe the processes of maturation, carbonation, filtration, cask-conditioning, packaging and pasteurisation and how they influence the final beer.
Module 4: Different styles of beer
Identify the terms used to describe different beer styles and describe the typical characteristics of the beer associated with these labelling terms.
Describe malted barley, other grains and adjuncts, hop, and yeast and bacteria options used in the production of different beer styles.
Describe brewing processes used to produce different beer styles.
Module 5: Storage and service of beer and food
State the ideal conditions for storing beer.
State the recommended temperatures and correct procedures for serving beer.
Describe how common faults affect the aromas and flavours of beer.
State the key considerations when making a food and beer pairing recommendation.
Module 6: Revision
Mock multiple-choice feedback examination which can be attempted as many times as the student likes.
Assessment
There is an exam of 50 multiple-choice questions that will be sat in your own home with remote invigilation. The exam must be completed in 60 minutes and the date and time of the exam will be arranged to suit you. You can find out more about remote invigilation here

Please note: no refunds will be issued within 5 working days prior to the start of the course. Before that period a 75% refund is allowed if a student cancels their enrolment. A 100% refund will apply if Archive Academy cancels. Please note there is a re-sit exam fee of $250 if a student does not attend the exam for any reason.
