WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is a 6 hour course aimed at those working in the hospitality or wine retail sector or wine lovers seeking more formal wine education. Through a combination of tasting and theory, you’ll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately, and make food and wine pairings.
This is an accredited course and all candidates who successfully complete the examination are awarded the WSET Level 1 Award in Wine certificate and lapel pin.

• Common wine grapes and their characteristics
• How to store and serve wine
• The principles of food and wine pairing
• How to describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
Course delivery
Minimum 6 hours of study delivered as a face to face course. This course will be delivered over two nights from 6-9pm.
Assessment
The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is assessed by a closed-book examination that consists of 30 multiple choice questions to be completed in 45 minutes. The exam is scheduled for the end of the coursework and is included in the second session.
Please note: no refunds will be issued within 10 working days prior to the start of this course. Before that period a 75% refund is allowed if a student cancels their enrolment. A 100% refund will apply if Archive Academy cancels. Please note there is a re-sit exam fee of $200 if a student does not attend the exam for any reason.
