WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits - Online Classroom - commencing 25 November

An intermediate-level qualification exploring spirits and aromatised wines for those working in the industry or spirits enthusiasts. This qualification is intended for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of spirits or those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits.

The course fee includes access to the WSET Online Classroom, the Student Study Pack including reading material and the Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT) shipped to you anywhere within Australia and a remotely invigilated exam you can sit from the comfort of your home. There is an option to also purchase the equipment kit (see below) which includes all necessary spirits samples for the course.

Delivery

This course is a 5-week, 6 module online learning programme with educator support available for this time. The course modules should be followed in sequential order during this 5-week window. There is a recommendation of 6 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.

Assessment

This course is assessed by an exam of 50 multiple-choice questions that will be sat in your own home with remote invigilation. The exam must be completed in 60 minutes and the date and time of the exam will be arranged to suit you. This is an accredited course and all candidates who successfully complete the examination are awarded the WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits certificate and lapel pin.

There are a number of items required to complete the practical activities involved in this course including;

You’ll learn about the fundamental production methods and principal raw materials, discovering how they are used to make the key spirit styles. You’ll also explore the key practices and principles of serving spirits and the use of spirits in cocktails. Upon achievement you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.

Learn to taste and describe spirits using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting®

Discover how spirits are made and the influence of production methods on the style of spirit produced.

Module 2: Fruit spirits and Whisky/Whiskey

Learn about the raw materials and production processes used to produce the principal types of fruit spirits and whiskies.

Learn about the key characteristics and labelling terms used for these styles of spirits.

Module 3: Sugar cane spirits and Tequila and Mezcal

Learn about the raw materials and production processes used to produce the principal types of rum, cachaça, tequila and mezcal.

Learn about the key characteristics and labelling terms used for these styles of spirits.

Module 4: Vodka, flavoured spirits and aromatised wines

Learn about the raw materials and production processes used to produce the principal types of vodka, flavoured spirits, and aromatised wines.

Learn about the key labelling terms used for these styles of spirits.

Module 5: Mixing with spirits

Learn about the key ingredients and the factors to be considered when making a balanced cocktail.

Learn about the key cocktail families and know notable examples from each.

Module 6: Revision and resources

Mock multiple-choice feedback examination which can be attempted as many times as the student likes.

Exam dates

To be set with you after enrolment - the exam must be sat at the completion of the 5 week course timeframe.

Please note: no refunds will be issued within 5 working days prior to the start of the course. Before that period a 75% refund is allowed if a student cancels their enrolment. A 100% refund will apply if Archive Academy cancels. Please note there is a re-sit exam fee of $250 if a student does not attend the exam for any reason.
